Arlington Southwest Little League

Because it's about so much more than baseball

FAQ

The growth and continued success of Arlington Southwest Little League would not be possible without our partnerships with the City of Arlington, D-Bat, NT Window, Champion Energy, Alley Cats, Afisco, Drs Alexander Orthodontics,  Lone Star Gear, and New Balance.  Support them as you have the need.

Who is on paid staff for the league?
No one.  The league is run and operated solely with volunteers.

How are teams put together?
We usually allow the younger kids to play with their friends and classmates.  Once they get to kid pitch, we make every effort to keep the teams that have been together, together.  We do not do a skills assessment or a tryout—everyone who wants to play will play.

Where do we sign up to volunteer for concessions?
Each team is required to provide volunteers to serve in the concession stand.  These times will be assigned by one of our coordinators working in tandem with the team parents.  Bubba Ball teams will provide one volunteer per shift—tee ball, two volunteers.  All other divisions will provide eight volunteers for each assigned shift.  Young adults are encouraged to volunteer, but must be at least 13 years of age to volunteer in the concession stand.

Where do we go if we have uniform problems?
Everything funnels through your manager.  All requests for gear, swapping for sizes, etc. need to go through your managers.  The league will deal only with the managers or their appointed agents.

What if we have problems?
Always start with the manager.  If managers have issues with parents or players, they will deal directly with their respective commissioners.  If a parent has an issue with a coach, they will deal directly with Andy White, our player agent ([email protected]).  Everyone certainly has an open door with the upper management of the league—but you will always be referred back to these two sources.

What if we are given special dispensation to avoid/break usual protocol?
We suggest to you that you better have it in writing.  “He said…”…”they said…”, …”Brett said…”…none of these hold much water here.  We have processes in place and we respect those processes.

You said something about not arguing with the umpires—isn’t that part of the game?
Not here.  You are always welcome to ask for clarification if there is some sort of question about the rules.  Please do so with the level of respect that is deserved and expected.

Everything in the concession stand is $1?  Why not charge more and replace the fundraisers?
The concession stand serves the members of the league as a convenience only.  It was never intended to be a money maker or replace fundraising.  The league discontinued all fundraising in 2011.

Why can’t we supply our own catching gear or batting helmets?

The league has gone to great expense to color code all uniforms and hard gear.  All players are issued new helmets that remain theirs to keep for as long as they play here.

Why open registration so soon, and why close it so early?
In short…to help you be better prepared to play baseball.  We simply can’t operate efficiently without knowing who is on what team—at least 3-4 weeks before the start of each season.

When and where are games and practices?
All games will be Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the MLK Sports Complex.  Practices are at the discretion of the managers.  The league pays field rental to the City for all games.  Teams must rent the fields for practices through the city and share the expense.  We will be home by 3pm on Saturdays to allow families to spend some quality time together.

What about inclement weather?
See "weather policy" page on this website.

What if we have questions in general and don’t know where to turn?
E mail [email protected].  We will respond quickly.
